Updated Biography.
”Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music”. Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff. It seems like Misha Gimmervert is a good example of how one can commit himself entirely to the process of musical construction. Ever since he stepped into the boundless world of music, he is constantly refining the ability to express his own views and emotions throughout the musical tools available in our modern society. His musical activity began in the year 2000, when he joined ”Arafel” – an Israeli metal band, formed in 1997 and influenced by Slavonic folk music. In September 2002 the band traveled to Poland in order to record its first full length album ”The Way of Defender”. During his stay in Poland, Misha interacted with some Polish musicians, who made him realize that there is much more to music than what the black metal genre has to offer. And despite the success of the album, Misha decided to quit the band. In 2003 Misha met Igor Kartuz, a musician and song writer, with whom he created ”V Starinke” – a musical project in Russian, which was recorded, but never released. They both agreed that they had learned a lot from the process, but decided that ”V Starinke” didn’t turn out to be the direct reflection of what they really wanted to say. During that period of time, Gimmervert and Kartuz began experimenting with music and vocals in order to create a new approach to musical self expression. That was the first seed planted in the musical uterus that in time gave birth to ”End Is Nothing”. The guinea pig that was used in their musical laboratory was a selection of songs by the Russian rock singer Victor Tzoi. In time, Misha came back to that project, named it ”tribute one is watching” and finalized it, leaning on his artistic views of Victor Tzois music. In 2008 Misha released his first album ”Server”, which included only 8 out of the 13 tracks that were recorded for this project. The reason for the partial release was a question of sound. As a sound engineer, Misha wasn’t sure if this was how he wanted his project to sound like. So he decided to release just 8 tracks, see how they survive in the real world and offer his listeners an aperitif, before they were served with the main course. All the musical instruments on this album were played and recorded by him. He also did the mixing and mastering. After the release of ”Server” Misha was invited to play guitar in the Israeli Metal Band ”Gevolt”, which is currently working on a full length album containing classic Yiddish songs adapted to a modern metal sound. In addition, they are looking forward to perform live. While working on ”Server” Misha met Artiom Lichtshtein, who became very interested in ”End is Nothing”. In addition to his own numerous contributions to the project, he also asked Misha to work on the upcoming cd of an Israeli Progressive metal band ”Stormy Atmosphere”, in which Lichtshtein played guitar at that time. Misha began recording from scratch a full length album of a 6 member band. That was his first serious and by all means professional experience with sound and an important lesson for years to come. Misha has also worked on the sound of such bands as ”Sumo Elevator”, ”Soul Enema”and ”Dree my Weird” in addition to a side project called ”FB Force” – a fascinating experimental blend of break beat and heavy guitars. Currently Misha is working on his second album, playing guitar in ”Gevolt” and constantly looking for new and interesting musical relations in order to co-develop, record and create a new and exceptional sound. From time to time he will light a cigarette and look outside the window - that’s when you know that his chaotic mind is looking for new ways to split the particles of the musical atom and create a new mouth watering mutation that will offer us a whole new way to absorb and ingest music. |
